09 May 2019

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce the appointment of two new practice group leaders in the firm's Montréal office: partners Jean-François Vadeboncoeur and Matthew Roy now lead the office's Business Law and IP groups respectively.

Jean-François Vadeboncoeur

A partner in the firm's Financial Institutions & Services Group, Jean-François focuses his practice in the area of bank financing, working on numerous Canadian and cross-border financing transactions involving multijurisdictional aspects. With over 15 years of experience in banking, real estate and corporate law, he provides advice to national and international clients to support their financing needs.

"With sophisticated experience overseeing a range of complex financing matters, Jean-François continues to be a trusted adviser to our clients, delivering outstanding results again and again," says Pierre Pilote, managing partner of Gowling WLG's Montréal office. "He is the ideal candidate to lead our team as we continue to expand and provide the highest quality of service to our clients. I look forward to working with him as he takes on this new role."

In addition to his financing practice, Jean-François is increasingly sought out to work on commercial matters, collaborating closely with his clients and other professionals to develop and implement various action plans and corporate structures across several industries.

Matthew Roy

Matthew Roy is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa and Montréal offices. He has nearly two decades of experience in drafting and prosecuting applications for patents relating to mechanical, electrical, optical and software technologies in Canada, the United States and abroad — as well as under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

From multinationals to startups, Matthew works with leading innovative corporations and advises numerous clients from a variety of sectors on patent licensing, intellectual property transactions, technology transfers and non-disclosure agreements, as well as issues relating to the enforcement of patent and design rights in Canada and abroad.

"Matthew's broad expertise, dynamism and extensive experience in both Ontario and Québec make him an excellent leader", says Pilote. "I am certain that he will bring fresh energy to our IP Group in Montréal. From patents and trademarks, to advertising and product regulation, to litigation, our expertise is unmatched in Montréal, Canada and around the world. We have very ambitious plans for our group and Matthew will play a key role in guiding our team forward."
