It is with great sorrow that Gowling WLG mourns the loss of its former Toronto litigation partner Mr. Justice Glenn A. Hainey.

Glenn first joined Gowling WLG’s predecessor firm Smith Lyons in 1981. Following Smith Lyons’ merger with Gowling Lafleur Henderson in late 2001, Glenn assumed leadership of the firm’s Toronto litigation practice. In 2008 he was appointed a Bencher of the Law Society of Ontario. He remained one of the firm’s senior commercial litigators until his appointment to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in December 2010. Most recently, Glenn was the Head of the Court’s Commercial List.

“Glenn was a legal titan, a force of nature and a recognized mentor and team-builder,” said Peter Lukasiewicz, CEO of Gowling WLG Canada. “He will be sorely missed by his fellow judges, his former partners, and his Gowling WLG friends and colleagues across Canada.”

Outside of his practice, Glenn was an ardent musician, golfer and skier, and was also a lover of good food and wine. Gregarious, quick-witted and warm, he was always happiest pursuing these passions with friends, colleagues and family.

Gowling WLG extends its deepest sympathies to Glenn’s wife, Susan, their children, David, Laura and Michael, and their grandchildren, Charlotte and Jack.
