30 January 2024

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce that Erin Runnalls has been appointed Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta, effective Jan. 29, 2024.

Erin’s appointment follows a previous tenure as Bencher in 2023, during which time she participated in the extensive policy-making and adjudication roles of the Law Society, and sat on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She also served as the Bencher representative on the Board of the Alberta Lawyers’ Assistance Society (ASSIST).

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue contributing to the good governance of the Law Society in the public interest,” said Erin. “I look forward to working with my fellow Benchers in the years to come to champion the highest standards of professionalism.”

A partner and civil litigator, Erin focuses her practice on commercial litigation, health law, international arbitration, class actions, defamation and constitutional and media law. She also currently leads the Calgary office's pro bono programs and serves as chair of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

“On behalf of the firm, I extend my congratulations to Erin on this major career milestone,” said Regina Corrigan, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Calgary office. “This appointment is a reflection of her reputation among the Bar in Alberta, which she has earned through years of hard work and dedication to our profession and our community.”

Erin received a Distinguished Service Award for her pro bono work from the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association in 2013, as well as a Pro Bono Service Award from Pro Bono Law Alberta in 2016. In 2022 she was named a "Lawyer to Watch" in the area of corporate commercial litigation in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and in 2021 she was named among Lexpert’s "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40."
