Amber Bonnell

Amber (she/her) is an associate lawyer, practising in Commercial Litigation within the broader Advocacy Group of Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office.

Amber’s practice includes a wide variety of commercial matters, including product liability litigation, real estate litigation, property law disputes, estate litigation, collections, and various contract disputes. Amber assists a wide range of clients, from individuals to multinational businesses, across diverse sectors, including the tech, automotive, and product manufacturing sectors, as well as local establishments.

Amber has successfully represented clients at a variety of levels of Court. She takes a holistic approach in assisting clients in finding creative resolutions to contentious legal issues.

Amber successfully completed a secondment at a leading American tech company in 2021, where she assisted the Global Compliance department with investigations and internal concerns.

Amber is proud to be involved in a variety of areas within the firm. As an intersectional feminist, Amber is excited about her membership on the local Student Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, as well as the Waterloo Region office’s book club. Amber enjoys working with students and other young lawyers as they navigate through their first years of practice.

Outside of the office, Amber serves as the Chair of Policy on a local Provincial Riding Association. She is an avid political volunteer at both the provincial and federal levels. She also serves on the Policy and Public Affairs Committee of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), and has recently joined the OBA’s Council for Central South.

Prior to joining the team at Gowling WLG, Amber completed her integrated practice placement at a boutique law firm in downtown Toronto, assisting primarily on class action files. As a student, Amber also represented clients at a legal clinic on a pro bono basis. In this role, she appeared before the Landlord and Tenant Board and in Provincial Offences Court.

Amber is a proud member of the third graduating class of the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University, where she represented her colleagues as valedictorian for the class of 2018. She is a strong advocate for the Integrated Practice Curriculum and alternative pathways to licencing, and is passionate about access to legal education for students.

When she is not in the office, Amber enjoys hiking, reading, vintage shopping, travelling, and good coffee. Her goal is to hike in every province in Canada.
