Christiane McGovern is an associate lawyer in the Business Law Department of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. Her practice focuses on corporate commercial law, with a significant emphasis on technology and telecommunication matters. Christiane also frequently advises on issues relating to corporate governance.
Christiane regularly prepares and negotiates commercial agreements, including agreements relating to goods and services, cloud computing, fibre optic and collocation services, software services, data centers and other general commercial arrangements.
Christiane’s background includes valuable in-house experience acquired through secondments with the legal department of a large telecommunications company.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Christiane worked at Hydro Ottawa in their legal department, where she gained experience in all areas of corporate commercial law. Before law school, Christiane was an environmental review and approval officer at Infrastructure Canada where she worked closely with various stakeholders to ensure infrastructure projects complied with relevant federal legislation.
Christiane completed her JD program at Queen’s University Faculty of Law, and in her third year, participated in an exchange to the University of Hong Kong where she focused on international financial markets and technology law.
Christiane is an active member of the firm and her community. She is involved with the firm’s mentoring and national professional development initiatives. She also served as a member of the City of Ottawa’s Environmental Stewardship Advisory Committee from 2015 to 2018. Christiane currently supports Ronald McDonald House as a member of the organizing committee for the annual Skifest event.
