Bio
Donya Ashnaei is an articling student in Gowling WLG's Toronto office. She completed her joint JD and MA in economics at the University of Toronto.
Donya obtained a bachelor of social sciences in economics and public policy with Honours from the University of Ottawa, where she received the Faculty Plaque for the highest academic standing in her program. Throughout her studies, Donya assumed various leadership positions, including student representative on the University of Toronto’s Students’ Law Society and president of the Tax Law Society. Donya also served as a senior editor for the peer-reviewed Journal for Law and Equality and assisted with research for the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Donya worked as a student at a Montreal law firm, which specializes in transfer pricing and international taxation. Throughout her undergraduate degree, Donya worked on Parliament Hill, both as a legislative assistant to various members of parliament and as a parliamentary page.
