Garrett Hamel

Garrett Hamel is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, practising in most areas of corporate and commercial law, with a focus on private M&A, commercial agreements, corporate finance and incorporations.

Garrett completed the JD English common law program at the University of Ottawa and received an honours bachelor of commerce from the Sports Administration program at Laurentian University. While in law school, Garrett won the 2015 National Baseball Arbitration Competition hosted by Tulane University, and competed in the Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada. He was also co-president of the Music, Entertainment and Sport Society of Law at the University of Ottawa.

During his undergraduate studies he developed a strong background in marketing and client management through various internships at a marketing agency in Toronto and with the Tampa Bay Lightning in their marketing and corporate services department. Garrett also headed a social media consulting project for Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.

Garrett also previously worked in administration for mining and construction businesses.

Community

Garrett spent six years as the assistant general manager for the South Muskoka Shield Tier II Junior Hockey team (2007 to 2013).

He was also honoured in his youth by having a Greater Metro Hockey League award named after him. Awarded annually, the Garrett Hamel Award is given to the player who displays the most heart toward the game.
