Ilias Hmimas

Ilias Hmimas is an associate in Gowling WLG's Montréal office. He joined Gowling WLG's Montréal office team in the summer 2018 as a law student.

In May 2018, Ilias completed his bachelor of civil law (cum laude) at the University of Ottawa. He passed the Bar exams that same year, before going on to successfully complete the Canadian Securities Course at the Canadian Securities Institute in the winter of 2019. During the winter of 2020, he completed the Juris Doctor program in North American Common Law at the University of Montréal.

During his law studies at the University of Ottawa, he acted as a designated mentor for two students, in addition to being an intellectual property resource and a class representative. He also participated in an exchange program at the University of Hong Kong.

Ilias is the recipient of numerous honourable mentions, including an award from Bereskin & Parr LLP for achieving the highest mark of his cohort in the Intellectual and Industrial Property course.

Ilias has served as a military officer in the Canadian Armed Forces since he started university, holding the positions of platoon commander for recruits, as well as course officer. He has also been appointed as an assistant officer tasked with advising members in the preparation of their representations when they are subject to administrative and/or disciplinary proceedings. Over the course of his military career, he has led troops during exercises in Canada and in the United States.
