Imran Mufti

Imran Mufti is based in Riyadh and has practiced in the Middle East for over 20 years primarily in the areas of Islamic finance, project finance and capital markets, with a focus on Saudi Arabia.

According to Chambers Global, Imran "is known for his Islamic capabilities and knowledge. He is 'particularly well known for capital markets transactions,' and is frequently the go-to lawyer for Shariah-compliant advice."

Imran ensures clients receive a high quality, responsive service and advises promptly in resolving any issues they may face during the course of a transaction.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Imran worked for leading international law firms in Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Imran holds a LLB (Hons) degree from the University of London.

He is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and as an attorney-at-law in New York.

Experience

  • Advising lenders to the Sudair PV IPP, the largest solar project in Saudi Arabia
  • Advising lenders on the Sakaka Solar PV IPP in Saudi Arabia.
  • Advising on a major construction project affiliated with the endowment program of one of Saudi Arabia's largest universities with an estimated value of SR7bn.
  • Advising on the privatisation and establishment of the Marafiq project into a single operating business, requiring the transfer of assets, contracts and employees in relation to this ground-breaking power and utility project.
  • Advising a Saudi state-owned entity on its bid for the Makkah Bus PPP project in Saudi Arabia.
  • Advising the successful bidder for the design, finance, build and operation of Taif Airport in Saudi Arabia.
  • Advised the lead arranger on sophomore issuances for the Government of Cote d'Ivoire and the Government of Senegal, and a debut issuance for the Republic of Togo.
  • Advising the arranger, on the inaugural CFA150bn sukuk offering by the Government of Côte d'Ivoire. Awarded Sukuk of the Year and Africa Deal of the Year at the Islamic Finance News Awards 2015.
  • Advising the arrangers on the inaugural CFA 100bn Sukuk offering by the Government of Senegal, the first of its kind in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) zone.
