Jacqueline Knox

Jacqueline Knox helps clients to deal with the acquisition, development and ongoing management of their property in an efficient and pragmatic manner.

Jacqueline's approach is to understand a client's business objectives, then use her considerable experience in the affordable housing sector to achieve them. Jacqueline advises those involved in the affordable housing sector on a variety of real estate matters including land acquisitions, disposals, development agreements, grant funding, investment, and residential tenancy agreements. She also advises on policy related matters and regulatory issues. Clients include Metropolitan Housing Trust, Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation, Circle, London Borough of Croydon, and Orbit.

Her wide-ranging experience in the housing sector over more than 20 years means that she has a skill set which enables her to quickly identify issues and work out how best to solve them in a way that protects her clients interests but doesn't get in the way of getting the deal done. Jacqueline takes ownership, and doesn't sit on the fence when it comes to helping clients make decisions. Eight years as an in-house lawyer in local government taught her the value of that.

Jacqueline has been immersed in the legal aspects of the social housing sector for getting on for 20 years now, and it's gradually crept up the political and public agenda. It's a topic that people are increasingly talking about, noticeable particularly to her because she finds that she spends an increasing amount of time shouting at the TV in response to inaccurate or just plain annoying reports about housing related issues! It's a subject she feels very passionate about, which is one of the many great things about her job.

  • Jacqueline worked closely with Sanctuary Housing Association to help them deliver their 2011-15 development programme – the country’s largest development programme under the Homes and Communities Agency’s 2011-15 National Homes Programme. She advised in relation to the HCA grant agreement, and led our team throughout the development programme on acquistions and development agreements, all helping to contribute to Sanctuary's record number of social housing completions in Inside Housing's 2015 Development Survey.
  • Acting in relation to the JV between Bournville Village Trust and the Homes and Communities Agency for over 10 years in their development of Lightmoor Village, Telford – the ‘21st century Bournville’.
  • Advising a large RP in relation to the acquisition of a substantial number of units for private rent in London which demanded complex tax structuring and the negotiation of unusual restrictions concerning the ongoing use of the property.
  • Advising a social property investment fund, new to the social housing sector, in relation to two lease back portfolio arrangements with housing charities and RPs, bringing a total investment of over £30m into supported living accommodation.
