Julian Henwood is a Birmingham-based (but often to be found overseas) M&A partner. Working with a largely European-headquartered client base, Julian has over 25 years' experience in project managing significant cross-border corporate transactions - including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and asset purchases and disposals. He co-chairs Gowling WLG's Nordic, Baltic and Netherlands Teams and travels in those regions frequently to visit clients in their home countries and to help in negotiating transactions.
Julian is also well used to leading advice on UK public takeovers (he has advised on approximately 20 UK public takeovers - most recently advising London-listed international civil engineering consultancy Hyder Consulting PLC on its £296m competitive public takeover by NYSE Euronext-listed Dutch peer ARCADIS NV).
The continuous thread of Julian's M&A practice is English law, but he is as likely to be found buying a British household name bicycle brand for Dutch clients, a food packaging manufacturer in Northern Ireland and Poland for Finnish clients or selling a firelighters business in Bulgaria for Swedish clients (real examples!), as he is to be acting for UK clients on their overseas M&A transactions.
Julian plays an active role in the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the United Kingdom.
Julian has a very active interest in good corporate goverance practices. He is a member of the Good Governence Forum of leading City of London think tank Tomorrow's Company.
