Mark S. Wilke, PhD

Mark Wilke is a Vancouver-based Gowling WLG partner and patent agent who advises on intellectual property law, with an emphasis on drafting and obtaining patents related to the life sciences and medical devices.

His clients are typically companies, universities and inventors in Canada seeking to obtain patent protection in Canada or internationally, as well as associate firms outside of Canada seeking to obtain Canadian patent protection for their own clients.

Mark advises on all aspects of the patenting process, including patentability, drafting, prosecution, validity and infringement. He also represents clients in respect of various contractual matters involving intellectual property, such as confidentiality agreements, research and development agreements and assignments.

He is experienced with a diverse set of technologies, including biotechnology, immunology, gene/RNA therapies, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices and bioremediation. Prior to his legal career, Mark completed a doctorate at the University of British Columbia, where he investigated the regulation of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic superbugs using X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance. As such, his background is particularly advantageous for matters requiring a detailed understanding of the relationship between molecular structures and their biological functions.

Outside of the office, Mark is an active member of his local home brewing community and has been brewing beer for over a decade.

Mark is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States.
