Matthew E. Mitchell

Matthew E. Mitchell is an associate in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office, practising in the Project Finance and Infrastructure groups.

Matt’s practice focuses on project finance, banking and secured transactions. He has acted on behalf of lenders, borrowers and proponents on a variety of financing transactions, including the acquisition, development, construction and refinancing of various real estate, energy and infrastructure projects, office buildings, and hotels.

Matt’s financing practice includes representing lenders, borrowers and proponents in a number of different sectors, including most recently:

  • As counsel to lenders and borrowers on various project and real estate financings, including acquisition, construction, operating, refinancing and derivative swap transactions.
  • As counsel to lenders in connection with various independent power projects.
  • As counsel to a syndicate of lenders for credit facilities in the aggregate principal amount of approximately $250 million in connection with the construction and development of a mixed-use commercial retail and office development.
  • As counsel to a syndicate of lenders in connection with a comprehensive redevelopment with an contract value of approximately $300 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a health care facility with a contract value of approximately $467 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a major campus redevelopment in the State of California with a contract value of approximately US$1.34 billion.
  • As counsel to a syndicate of lenders for credit facilities in the aggregate principal amount of $116.75 million in connection with the construction and development of a retail project and power centre.
  • As counsel to a service provider in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of the Emily Carr University of Art + Design campus redevelopment project, with a capital cost budgeted at up to $122.65 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a light rail transit line with a contract value of approximately $1.9 billion.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a health care facility with a contract value of approximately $512 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with a the design, build, finance and maintenance of a rapid transit project with a contract value of approximately $859.2 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent of a consortium in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of 558 bridges located in the State of Pennsylvania, financed through the sale of in excess of US$720 million in Tax-Exempt Private Activity Revenue Bonds.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of correctional facilities with a contract value of approximately $192.9 million.
  • As corporate counsel to a proponent in connection with the design, build, finance and maintenance of a rapid transit highway project with a contract value of approximately US$175 million.
