Peter J. Lukasiewicz

Peter Lukasiewicz is the past chief executive officer (CEO) of Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, having served as CEO from 2016 to 2021.

Peter was the first CEO to lead the Canada LLP arm of Gowling WLG. During his term, Peter grew the firm's brand while taking important steps to strengthen the firm's practices domestically, bringing greater equity to the firm's partnership admission and partner compensation processes, emphasizing associate advancement and inclusion, and working to make mental health and EDI top-level priorities.

As the firm's past CEO, Peter continues to play an instrumental role in supporting the firm's development by fostering client relationships, cultivating new leaders, and supporting strategic initiatives — all while championing the firm's core belief that the best way to serve clients is to be in tune with their world, aligned with their opportunity and ambitious for their success.

Prior to becoming CEO, Peter served on the firm's executive leadership team as the managing partner, clients, with primary responsibility for advancing the firm's relationships with its clients. Before joining the firm's executive leadership team, he served as managing partner of the Toronto office for 15 years.

Peter previously practised as a senior commercial litigator, counselling and representing domestic and global clients in a wide range of complex commercial disputes. He has been repeatedly recognized as one of Canada's leading commercial litigators by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers in Canada.

Peter is actively involved in his community. He is a member of the board of directors of Indspire, an Indigenous-led charity that invests in the education of First Nation, Inuit and Métis students across Canada. In 2014-15, he was president of the Advocates' Society, Canada's premier organization for advocates, having served on its board for the previous eight years. From 2006 to 2010, he chaired Toronto Metropolitan University's board of governors.

In recognition of his community service, Peter was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.
