Pierre-André Hamel

Pierre-André Hamel is a partner in the Business Law Department of Gowling WLG's Montréal office.

Pierre-André practises primarily in the areas of real estate, bank financing and corporate law. He provides strategic advice on a variety of commercial matters and has specific experience in commercial leasing securities and other guarantees.

Pierre-André regularly advises various businesses in the mortgage industry, including financial institutions, insurance companies and real estate investment funds, acting as both lender and borrower, on the implementation and modification of commercial and industrial property, condominium, corporate and project financings. He negotiates leases, real estate acquisitions, service contracts and other related business transactions.

He also assists counsel in other jurisdictions in connection with the taking of local security in cross-border financings, including syndicated loans, and has on numerous occasions coordinated the creation of security interests for various lenders and borrowers in real and personal property located in other Canadian provinces and in the United States.

Pierre-André has worked in law firms of various sizes ranging from a boutique firm to a national firm, in particular predecessor firms of Gowling WLG.

He practises law in English and French.

  • Acted as local counsel for a multinational automotive parts manufacturing company in its acquisition of a competitor's operations in Quebec, and subsequently advised it on various matters arising in the course of its day-to-day operations
  • Advised a Canadian dental services company in its acquisition of its first dental clinics in Quebec
  • Acted for a German multinational in its acquisition of a Quebec-based producer of food additives
  • Advised a group of landlords in the restructuring of a real estate portfolio comprising over 25 rental properties
