Tom Richards

Tom Richards is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Calgary office. Called to the Bars of Alberta and Saskatchewan, he practises exclusively in management-side labour, employment, and human rights law, advising employers across Western Canada.

Tom provides practical, strategic advice to employers in both unionized and non-unionized environments. His experience includes representing employers in wrongful dismissal claims, grievance arbitrations, labour board proceedings, and human rights complaints.

In addition to dispute resolution, Tom advises on day-to-day workplace matters, including drafting and reviewing employment agreements and workplace policies, regulatory compliance, and conducting workplace investigations.

Tom is actively involved in the legal community and has held positions with the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers. He writes on employment law topics and has served as a co-editor of a leading workplace human rights textbook. He also contributes to the broader community through leadership roles in cultural and advocacy organizations.
