Tom Price

Tom Price is a partner specialising in complex and high value cross border commercial disputes. Based in Gowling WLG's Birmingham and London offices, he has over twenty five years' experience resolving disputes (usually of a cross border nature), both in the English courts and through international arbitration in various arbitration centres around the globe. Tom is also an expert in jurisdictional issues, cross border enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards and the taking of evidence in cross border disputes.

Whilst Tom deals with disputes involving clients from many jurisdictions and in many sectors, he spends much of his time acting for clients from the CIS and Central and Eastern Europe and in the energy and natural resources sectors. His clients range from state owned industries through to owner-managed businesses and individuals. Tom is an active member of the firm's international arbitration group.

Tom regularly speaks to audiences around the globe on cross border issues including most recently on the various jurisdictional aspects related to Brexit. In addition to heading the firm's CIS and CEE desk he is also a member of the International Bar Association Litigation Committee Advisory Board.

Experience

  • Acting for a Russian shareholder in English court proceedings in a boardroom dispute concerning a London listed gold-mining company.
  • Acting for suppliers of industrial equipment for use in the iron ore sector in a major ICC arbitration concerning alleged defects in a processing plant in India.
  • Acting for a CIS state owned company in an LCIA arbitration over the supply of equipment in the oil and gas sector.
  • Acting in English Commercial Court proceedings for an oil trader in claims relating to the supply of gasoline in Yemen.
  • Acting for Kazakh interests in two LCIA arbitrations concerning the financing of a group in the mining sector.
  • Acting for an Indian company in an UNCITRAL arbitration in the industrial manufacturing sector.
  • Acting in a dispute over a joint venture agreement involving Cypriot and BVI companies with Court proceedings and an ad hoc arbitration in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Representing numerous clients in applications to take evidence for use in foreign (usually US) proceedings.
