Tom Price

Tom Price is a partner specialising in complex and high value cross border commercial disputes. Based in Gowling WLG's Birmingham and London offices, he has over twenty years' experience resolving disputes (usually of a cross border nature) quickly and cost effectively, both in the English courts and through international arbitration in numerous arbitration centres around the globe. Tom is also an expert in jurisdictional issues, cross border enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards and the taking of evidence in cross border disputes.

Whilst Tom deals with disputes involving clients from many jurisdictions and in many sectors, he spends much of his time acting for clients from the CIS and Central and Eastern Europe and in the energy and natural resources sectors. His clients range from state owned industries through to owner-managed businesses and individuals. Tom is an active member of the firm's international arbitration group.

His current and recent matters include a substantial dispute concerning the supply of industrial equipment in the mining sector, defending Ukrainian interests in a claim for commission from the sale of a gas field in Ukraine, defending claims relating to the sale of gasoline in Yemen, a claim against a central Asian government over the unlawful termination of mining rights and dealing with a joint venture dispute involving Cypriot and BVI companies.

When not engaged in client work, Tom regularly speaks to audiences around the globe on cross border issues. In addition to heading the firm's CIS and CEE desk he is also co-chair of the International Bar Association Litigation Committee.


  • Acting for suppliers of industrial equipment for use in the iron ore sector in a major ICC arbitration concerning alleged defects in a processing plant in India.
  • Acting for Ukrainian interests in an ICC arbitration concerning commission on the sale of a gas field in Eastern Ukraine.
  • Acting for a CIS state owned company in an LCIA arbitration over the supply of equipment in the oil and gas sector.
  • Acting in English Commercial Court proceedings for an oil trader in claims relating to the supply of gasoline in Yemen.
  • Acting in a claim against a Central Asia government over the unlawful termination of mining rights.
  • Acting for Kazakh interests in two LCIA arbitrations concerning the financing of a group in the mining sector.
  • Acting in a dispute over a joint venture agreement involving Cypriot and BVI companies with Court proceedings and an ad hoc arbitration in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Acting for a company in an ICC arbitration concerning allegations of patent infringement in the microelectronics sector.
  • Representing numerous clients in applications to take evidence for use in foreign (usually US) proceedings.
