Yasmin Khaliq

Yasmin Khaliq is an articling student in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office with a focus on Advocacy.

Following a rewarding career in pharmacy, Yasmin changed gears and entered the field of law, completing her JD in the French Common Law program at the University of Ottawa. She graduated with a concentration in Health Law and a plan to combine the skills of both her professions. Yasmin has always been interested in learning and being active in events around her. During her legal studies, she worked as a facilitator in Streetsmart, a group who shares legal information with street-involved youth, and volunteered in a number of activities at school including participating in a mock trial with the Advocate's Society and acting as a peer mentor.

Yasmin's pharmacy background included not only patient care in a number of specialty areas, but also research and writing, producing a number of medical publications. She has continued to participate in research during law school, acting as a research assistant as well as co-authoring a chapter in a University of Ottawa textbook on COVID-19. Yasmin has also published articles on mental health law in the Ottawa Citizen and Policy Options.

Yasmin's experience includes sitting as a public member on two administrative tribunals, the Consent and Capacity Board and the Ontario Review Board.

Yasmin's outside interests include open water swimming, running, hiking and travel. She is active in helping refugees settle in Ottawa and sits on the Board of Directors at Cornerstone Housing for Women.
