Join Gowling WLG's Head of UK Tech Venture Capital Rebecca Burford and Founder and Managing Partner of venture capital fund Cornerstone VC, Rodney Appiah, on Friday 25 October for a fireside chat-style discussion on all things venture capital funding as part of this year's Birmingham Tech Week (21-25 October 2024).
Ideal for early-stage businesses who have already completed a seed funding round and are looking to take the next step in their growth journey (£1 million+ fundraising), this session will cover:
- Fundraising fundamentals: what is venture capital, why is it important and what kind of businesses should consider it?
- What exactly do investors look for in a business?
- How to prepare for venture capital - what to consider and what to avoid
- Tips for success
This will all be brought to life by Rodney's experiences as an early-stage investor at Cornerstone VC, which invests in UK technology businesses. There will also be a Q&A at the end of the session, giving you the opportunity to ask Rodney and Rebecca any questions you might have about venture capital funding.

Rodney Appiah - Founder and Managing Partner, Cornerstone VC
Rodney is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cornerstone VC, an early-stage fund focused on a 'people first' investment approach. Investing at pre-seed and seed, Cornerstone VC is focused on UK tech companies led by diverse teams that seek to change the way we live, work and play. Prior to founding Cornerstone VC, Rodney held roles at BGF, Foresight Group and Merrill Lynch and has more than 15 years of financial services, TMT and Consumer experience across UK and Europe. An experienced board director, Rodney serves as an NED for the UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA), the largest UK trade body for angel and early stage investing and Conduit Connect, a direct investment platform that focuses on connecting global high impact businesses with mission aligned investors. Additionally, he is a committee member of Innovate UK (Innovation Loans).
