Mark Giavedoni, a partner at Gowling WLG, has been acclaimed as president of the Hamilton Law Association (HLA), effective May 30.

Giavedoni has been deeply involved with the HLA since 2006, serving as a trustee and member of its executive committee before going on to be appointed secretary-treasurer and, most recently, vice-president. He has also chaired the association’s real estate and CPD subcommittees, and served as vice-chair of its corporate & commercial subcommittee.

“It’s an honour to serve as president of the Hamilton Law Association,” says Giavedoni. “As local law associations go, the HLA is one of the biggest and the best, with an impeccable reputation. The energy and enthusiasm of so many of our peers has made the organization the success it is today, and I look forward to continuing that legacy in the year ahead.”

A Certified Specialist in real estate law as designated by the Law Society of Ontario, Giavedoni focuses his practice on all aspects of real property transitions, including title repairs, condominium advice, leasing, financing, project structure and development, dispute prevention and resolution. He is frequently consulted by municipalities, universities, school boards, utilities and other organizations to advise on complex matters.

Giavedoni worked with the Hamilton firm of ESB Lawyers LLP from 2013 until the firm merged with Gowling WLG in January 2019.

“We’re delighted that Mark Giavedoni will be leading the Hamilton Law Association in the coming year,” says Louis Frapporti, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office. “Mark’s new role is a testament to his commitment to the legal community and his profession. He will serve as a strong voice for lawyers across the city, and will be an excellent representative for our firm as we continue to help Hamilton businesses expand their footprint – both locally and globally.”

The Hamilton Law Association is one of the oldest county and district law associations in Ontario. Incorporated in 1879, it now comprises approximately 1,040 members and has one of the highest rates of participation of any of the province’s county law associations.
