Luke Wang, PhD

Dr. Luke Wang is a partner and registered patent agent in the Calgary office of Gowling WLG. His practice involves patent drafting and prosecuting patent applications relating to a wide range of subject matter, including electrical, software and mechanical engineering.

Luke focuses on finding patent solutions for high-tech and oil and gas companies, including wireless communications, signal processing, image processing, software and mechanical inventions. He also has experience in web technologies, databases, computer networks, integrated circuit design and audio/video codecs.

Educated in both Canada and China, Luke obtained his PhD from the University of Alberta, and had an extensive engineering career working in large high-tech companies prior to becoming a patent agent. He is the co-inventor of two issued patents, and has co-authored publications for top IEEE journals and conferences.

In 2015, Luke became a registered Canadian patent agent and worked at another Canadian law firm before joining Gowling WLG.
