Bio
Nick Jones is Gowling WLG's Director of Enterprise Risk Management and a member of the firm's Risk Management Committee. Based in Calgary, he is responsible for the firm's professional indemnity insurance, outside directors’ and officers’ liability insurance, property, general and umbrella liability insurance, cyber risk insurance, and various other miscellaneous insurance policies.
Nick is responsible for the development and implementation of Gowling WLG’s developing approach to enterprise risk management. He is currently developing the firm’s risk appetite and tolerance frameworks, facilitating enterprise risk assessments, delivering training to the business units and reporting to the Executive Committee.
Nick provides risk management consulting services to the firm's clients and professionals on various risk management issues, and on insurance topics such as insurance markets, types of insurance policies and contract review. He assists clients in their broker selection process and contract review (specifically insurance and indemnity clauses), and provides advice on how to present a company's risk profile to insurers to obtain insurance quotations.
He delivers risk management and insurance presentations across the firm, and conducts roundtable discussions with the firm's partners, associates and students.
After graduating university with a BA (Hons.) in International Business Studies, Nick started his career working in Lloyd’s of London as a broker, before moving back to Canada to work for a large Canadian insurance brokerage.
Nick has been a speaker on numerous insurance topics, such as professional indemnity insurance coverage, representations and warranties insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance and cyber risk.
He is a member of the Alberta Risk and Insurance Management Society, Risk Management Consultants of Ontario, and the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.
