
Bio
Shanzay Amjad is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office.
Shanzay earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary, where she actively engaged in both academic and community initiatives. She volunteered with Student Legal Assistance and Pro Bono Students Canada, supporting vulnerable members of the community. Her legal experience includes internships with the International Organization for Migration and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF). Shanzay also participated in two competitive moots, completed several Master of Laws (LLM) courses during an exchange at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and served on the local chapter of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA). She further demonstrated her commitment to international human rights by leading a law student delegation to a United Nations treaty body session in Geneva, Switzerland.
Before entering law school, Shanzay completed a degree in computer science with a minor in law at the University of Ottawa. She spent several years working in the tech industry as a software developer, often collaborating directly with clients to understand and meet their technological needs.
Outside of work, Shanzay has volunteered with the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization and Amnesty International.
