Syll practises in the Real Estate, Environmental and Urban Development department. His practice focuses on the acquisition and sale of all classes of commercial properties, the development of commercial real estate as well as real estate financing, asset and property management and leasing.
Syll has particular experience advising clients on complex contaminated land disputes and settlements. He regularly advises on environmental risks in corporate transactions and is involved in the identification and resolution of environmental liability issues. He also negotiates contractual clauses pertaining to the environmental aspects of commercial transactions.
Syll acts on behalf of domestic and foreign investors in the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties including single assets and portfolios; landlords and tenants in the preparation of template lease documentation and negotiating and strategizing leasing matters and related disputes; and pension funds and institutional investors in the creation of investment vehicles.
Syll is a former director of The Community Association for Riding for the Disabled and is on the planning committee for the Next Generation Section of the International Council of Shopping Centres. He has also served as a judge for the Juno Awards and sat on the Awards and Balloting Committee for the Canadian Country Music Association.
