On January 4, 2018, Maplesoft spun off its online education products into a separate corporation called DigitalEd, owned by an investor group.

Maplesoft, a subsidiary of Cybernet Systems Group, has provided mathematics-based software solutions to educators, engineers, and researchers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for over 25 years. DigitalEd's portfolio focuses on digital technology for use in online education, including online courseware technology, testing and assessment, and placement testing technology.

Gowling WLG advised Maplesoft with respect to this spin-off with a team that included David Petras, Aubrey Lasky and Adam Carlin (corporate/M&A).
