Gowling WLG advises DSG Retail and Dixons Carphone plc on their successful defence of Mastercard's strikeout application in the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal

A team in Gowling WLG London office, led by Bernardine Adkins, the head of our EU, Trade and Competition team, represented DSG Retail and Dixons Carphone plc ('Dixons') who successfully defended against Mastercard's application to strikeout part of their claim for damages in the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.

Gowling WLG has been providing strategic and innovative legal advice to Dixons on various complex legal issues throughout the course of the action for damages, which was commenced on the basis of the decision of the European Commission which found that Mastercard had infringed competition rules in breach of Article 81 of the EC Treaty (now Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union).

As a result of the Competition Appeal Tribunal judgment today, Gowling WLG has successfully preserved Dixons damages claim in relation to a period which extends to as far back as 1992.
