Gowling WLG shortlisted for Hamilton Outstanding Business Achievement Awards

Gowling WLG has been shortlisted for one of Hamilton's premier municipal accolades: the Outstanding Business Achievement Awards, presented by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

Each year, the Chamber uses the event to showcase excellence in business throughout the community. Awards are handed out in categories for small, mid-sized and large businesses, with Gowling WLG nominated in the latter.

Nominees are judged on criteria such as entrepreneurship, employee relations, alignment of mission statement, product innovation and promotion of Hamilton outside the city.

Gowling WLG's roots in the city's business community run deep. As a key partner in Hamilton's international economic development strategy, Gowling WLG supports the City's direct foreign investment efforts not only from a legal perspective, but also in helping to connect businesses to services, resources and support in Hamilton and around the world.

The firm is also involved in a bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which would see the global athletic competition return to its birthplace in time for the Games' centenary. The Hamilton 100 Committee, a new non-profit body responsible for developing the bid, includes Hamilton office managing partner Louis Frapporti in a senior leadership role.

"On behalf of our Gowling WLG Hamilton team, and our many colleagues in other offices across our firm that support and encourage our community-building efforts in Hamilton, I want to express our profound appreciation for this nomination," says Frapporti, regarding the Outstanding Business Achievement Awards.

Now celebrating 25 years in Hamilton, Gowling WLG plans to further cement its status in the city with construction of a forthcoming office building at McMaster Innovation Park. Construction is expected to begin this year on the four-storey facility.

"We are looking at this as a communications hub, as well as a law office," Frapporti recently told the Globe and Mail. "Because of where we are, we will have the luxury of having some of the brightest minds in the country only a few feet from our office and have the ability to broadcast what they are doing globally to our clients around the world."

Winners of the Outstanding Business Achievement Awards will be announced during a gala on Tuesday, March 24 at Carmen's Banquet Centre.

In recent years, Gowling WLG has reinforced its commitment to Hamilton by becoming an active accelerant of the city's commercial renaissance. The firm has done so by cementing partnerships with principal institutions - including McMaster University, Mohawk College and the City itself - and leveraging its far-reaching network to assist in the commercializing of innovation and promotion of investment in this region.
