Major win for Gowling WLG at the UK Pensions Awards

14 septembre 2022

Our Pensions team has won the Pensions Litigation Team of the Year category at the UK Pensions Awards 2022.

The team was recognised for their handling of several high-profile pieces of litigation which were heard by the High Court and the Court of Appeal in 2021, including cases involving the Mitchells & Butlers Pension Plan, the Axminster Carpets Group Retirement Benefits Plan and the Britvic Pension Plan.

We were also shortlisted in the Pension Lawyers of the Year and Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award categories.

This major success follows Gowling WLG winning the prestigious Pensions Law Firm of the Year award at the Pensions Age Awards earlier this year.

Professional Pensions selects the winners of each category for their outstanding achievements and developments over the last year. The accolades recognise excellence among the firms that provide services to UK schemes. The decision is based on a comprehensive firm submission, taking into account feedback from peers, clients and independent research.

Commenting on the team's success, partner and Gowling WLG's Head of Pensions Disputes Ian Gordon said: "We were delighted to win this award. It was recognition of a very busy and successful year in which we acted in complex and high profile pieces of litigation which culminated in three significant High Court and Court of Appeal judgments, all of which raised issues of wider interest and relevance to the pensions industry. The judgment involving the Mitchells & Butlers Pension Plan in favour of over 20,000 scheme members after a trial spanning three weeks in the midst of the pandemic was a particular highlight".
