Gowling WLG launches cutting-edge UP Calculator
Gowling WLG is excited to introduce the launch of the UPCalculator™, our newly developed cost calculator designed to quickly determine whether a Unitary Patent (UP) will be more cost effective than traditional national validations.
By offering cost comparisons of various scenarios over the lifetime of patent(s), users can easy evaluate the costs of obtaining UP protection in their chosen jurisdiction(s). The calculator considers as well various factors such as specification length or the year of lapse for the selected countries, providing an unparalleled and exceptional strategic help for those seeking patent protection in Europe - not only, during the upcoming Sunrise Period before the entry into force of the UPCA (Agreement on a Unified Patent Court).
"As patent owners and innovators awaiting the arrival of the new Unitary Patent system they are facing a number of strategic decisions affecting their existing and future patents," said Gordon Harris, member of Gowling WLG's international IP leadership team and project co-lead. "Making an efficient and yet cost-certain strategic decision in the early days might pave the way for the future of their patent protection and litigation in Europe."
The UPCalculator™ is a tool developed internally by experienced patent litigators and patent agents from our UPC working group and can be accessed free of charge.
Visit our UPC hub for more information on the Unitary Patent system, a map of the UPC or an opt-out guide and in-depth analyses.
