Gowling WLG is pleased to announce that Mark Crane has been appointed President of the Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA), effective May 6.

The role is the culmination of a long and collaborative relationship Mark has maintained with the TLA, having first been elected a Director of the organization in 2014. As President, he will work closely with his fellow board members to advance the TLA’s mission of building, strengthening and advocating on behalf of the TLA’s community of more than 3,000 members.

A highly respected advocate and head of Gowling WLG’s Arbitration Group in Canada, Mark focuses his practice on complex infrastructure disputes, as well as commercial and professional liability matters. Over the course of his 20 years in practice, he has helped clients across various industries – including engineering, construction, energy, and the public sector – achieve strategic outcomes to a range of high-stakes contentious issues.

“Mark's career-long commitment to fostering a robust, modern and inclusive legal industry makes him a natural choice for this position,” said Benjamin Na, Managing Partner of Gowling WLG's Toronto office. “We congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will continue to have on the TLA.”

The Toronto Lawyers Association has been representing the interests of lawyers practicing in Toronto for over 130 years. The TLA provides its members with access to a state-of-the-art legal library, produces a variety of news and information resources, and advocates for its members to the Ontario bench and bar, as well as to all levels of government and the public at large.
