Ashley Thornton

Ashley Thornton is an associate in Gowling WLG's Toronto office.

She completed her Juris Doctor at the Schulich School of Law, along with a specialization certificate in Health Law & Policy. Ashley completed her Bachelor of Arts at St. Thomas University with a double major in Criminology and Psychology, and a double minor in Human Rights and Law, Politics & Society. She also graduated with two certificates: the Certificate in Experiential Learning and Community Engagement, and the Certificate in Family Violence Issues.

While at St. Thomas, Ashley gained oral advocacy experience through STU’s Moot Court team – competing in both the American Moot Court Association (AMCA) and the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court competition. As the only undergraduate team at the North American Regional Round of the Stetson Moot, Ashley & her co-counsel placed 1st overall for oral advocacy, 1st for their written brief, and Ashley won the award for best oralist in the final round. Their team qualified for the international round where they finished in the Round of 16 along with high caliber law school teams from around the world.

Throughout her time in law school, Ashley was involved in the Dalhousie Feminist Legal Association, the Dalhousie Student Advocacy Services, and was involved in two Pro Bono projects. She gained legal research experience working as a research assistant for both the Access to Justice and Law Reform Institute and the Muriel McQueen Centre for Family Violence Issues. At her law school graduation, Ashley was also nominated as one of three class officers for her graduating class, emphasizing her continued commitment to her law school community.
