Ben Sasson

Ben helps clients to navigate the planning system, negotiate favourable planning-related consents and neutralise threats to their developments. Ben's practice focuses on planning, highways and compulsory purchase matters. He has acted for both public and private sectors on numerous high profile projects including infrastructure schemes and has advised on involving public inquiries and planning litigation.

Experience

  • Acted for energy providers advising on purchasing land conditional on planning for numerous battery storage farms including; advising on local policy requirements, planning conditions and permitted development rights for statutory undertakers.
  • Acted for three Local Planning Authorities in respect of compulsory purchase matters including advising on complex schemes, the settlement of claims and service of notices. He has also acted for commercial clients on the settlement of HS2 related compulsory purchase claims.
  • Advised clients on a range of complex commercial and residential acquisitions including the acquisition of a shopping centre and holiday parks for commercial clients. Acted for a public body client on the acquisition of a logistics site with a detailed and complex planning history. Advised on residential led development acquisitions involving up to 6,000 dwellings.
  • Advised clients on a range of planning related matters including authorised use, CIL, accessibility, affordable housing, environmental requirements and planning procedure.
  • Assisted clients with proceedings at planning inquiry, judicial review proceedings both at the High Court and Court of Appeal.
  • Ben has experience advising client's on environmental due diligence and enforcement matters regarding packaging waste with the Environment Agency and statutory nuisance complaints.
  • Ben has prepared a section 6 Planning Act 2008 request for a review of the Airports National Policy Statement based on the implications of the Government's net zero target and the environmental impacts of Heathrow expansion.
