Chris Dennehy

Chris is a partner working in the Calgary office of Gowling WLG, practising in the areas of business law, banking and finance, real estate and diversified lending.

His practice consists primarily of work in financial services, with a focus on syndicated and bilateral financial transactions. He has acted for both lenders and borrowers in a wide range of transactions, including secured and unsecured debt financing, acquisition financing, debtor-in-possession financing, real estate and project financing, asset-based lending and inter-creditor arrangements.

Chris also has experience working in the European financial services market, as he previously worked as an associate in the Vienna, Austria office of another international law firm.

During law school, Chris also spent a semester abroad at the National University of Singapore.

  • Counsel to a three-bank syndicate for a $50-million construction financing on a Calgary condo project
  • Counsel to lenders and borrowers on various real estate financings, including acquisition, construction and refinancing transactions

Chris' insolvency practice includes representing creditors and receivers in a number of different sectors, including most recently serving as:

  • Counsel to the senior secured creditor in relation to the receivership of a mid-size oil & gas company
  • Counsel to the Court appointed receiver in a cross-border insolvency proceeding
  • Counsel to a syndicate of lenders in relation to a large shipping company involved in CCAA proceedings
