Clément Stacey
Clément Stacey is an articling student in Gowling WLG's Toronto office.
Clément completed his legal education in Canada, France and the United Kingdom, focusing his studies on international trade law, public international law and EU law. His master of laws addressed developments in investment treaty arbitration and its effect on legal practice.
Clément also obtained a certificate in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) Military Leadership Development Programme (MLDP), which is designed to teach individuals leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills.
Over the past five years, Clément has worked at Gowling WLG as a member of the business and development team, most recently as a business development manager. In this role, he worked with the firm's global intellectual property (IP) practice, taking a strategic approach to support the firm's professionals and their clients who require legal support for IP matters.
Prior to this role, Clément worked with the firm's International Board, advising on client opportunities in international markets. This experience, coupled with his knowledge of the business of law, has given him a unique appreciation of the value lawyers can add to their clients' projects as strategic partners who are able to uncover commercial opportunities and find innovative solutions to legal challenges.
Outside of law, Clément is an avid soccer player. He has seen first hand how the power of the sport can bring people together and promote a good cause. In 2018, Clément organized a charity tournament in support of the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF). He continues to look for opportunities to use the sport as a vehicle for community engagement.
