Emma Hobbs

Emma Hobbs is an associate in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office, practising in the firm's Advocacy Department and Environmental Law Practice Group.

Her practice includes advising industry, government, and First Nations clients on environmental, Indigenous, and regulatory law matters. Emma has experience in environmental litigation, judicial reviews, spills management and reporting, contaminated sites remediation, environmental permitting and regulatory offences, waste diversion (including extended producer responsibility and product stewardship matters), energy, forestry, marine, and Indigenous governance matters.

Emma joined the firm as a summer student in 2019 and completed her articles in 2021. She received her law degree from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a specialization in Aboriginal Law.

During law school, Emma spent a term as a student clinician at the UBC Indigenous Community Legal Clinic, where she assisted members of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside community. She was an Allard Ambassador, and was an executive with the UBC Environmental Law Group. Emma received the Harper Grey LLP Prize in Environmental Law in 2020.

Before law school, Emma completed a BSc and MSc in Biology at Western University. She then worked in municipal government, focusing on renewable energy projects and environmental research. Emma spent six summers leading remote canoe trips in Ontario, Quebec, and Canada's Arctic.
