Jayde Wood

Jayde Wood is an intellectual property lawyer, patent agent, and trademark agent based in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office.

With her extensive experience in IP prosecution, portfolio management, and licensing, Jayde helps clients protect, grow, leverage, and monetize their IP assets throughout the business lifecycle. Jayde's clients include a broad range of early-stage and established companies. Her practice focuses on the strategic creation, development, and commercialization of IP assets.

  • IP commercialization: Jayde assists clients with technology commercial transactions, where she negotiates and drafts information technology contract, licensing, co-development research, and services agreements. She also handles IP due diligence in commercial transactions and advises on IP policies/procedures for both private and public entities.
  • Patent and design prosecution: Jayde is experienced in obtaining patent and design protection. Her patent prosecution practice focusses on the biotechnology, medical device, and food-tech industries. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Jayde conducted research on antimicrobial resistance, phylogenetic grouping, and DNA fingerprinting of food-borne microorganisms. She leverages her science background to help local and multinational clients with patent matters.
  • Trademark prosecution: Jayde has assisted clients with optimizing their brand protection strategy, including providing guidance on the creation of a distinctive brand, conducting screening/clearance assessments, obtaining registered trademark protection for traditional 2D marks and non-traditional marks (such as product design, packaging, and moving image), and deploying other types of non-trademark protection.

In addition to her legal practice, Jayde is actively engaged in bar associations, industry organizations, and her community.  She serves as the vice chair on the Life Sciences Committee of the Licensing Executives Society International, a co-chair on the Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia Branch, Intellectual Property & Technology Law Section, and a director of the Vancouver International Arbitration Centre.  She was a former director of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (British Columbia) Society and has taught the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) Trademark Agent Examination Prep Course.

Jayde has law degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
