Kathryn Szymczyk

Kathryn is a business development manager in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, and works with our Canadian and Russian intellectual property (IP) teams on their business development strategies and initiatives. She also liaises with the IP teams in Gowling WLG's other offices to support and promote a global approach to business development.

Kathryn brings her understanding of the global IP legal market place together with her coaching, training, facilitating and business development skills to supporting the team. She is passionate about bringing a client-centric and big picture perspective to developing client relationships and cultivating new business.

Before joining Gowling WLG, Kathryn ran her own business development and leadership consulting firm. She provided group training, coaching, facilitation and strategic advice to lawyers and law firms from around the world.

Before making the transition to business development, Kathryn practiced IP law herself for 12 years in the Ottawa, Toronto and Moscow offices of Gowling WLG, as well as for another full service firm in Canada.

For the last eight years, Kathryn has run her own business development and leadership coaching, training and consulting business. She has worked with lawyers and law firms in Canada and globally to assist them in creating and implementing their individual and firm BD strategies.

In addition to having seen what these firms and others are doing to stay ahead of the market, she brings knowledge and experience in sales methodologies, personal branding, interpersonal business skills, experiential training and individual coaching for lawyers.
