Khemi Salhan

Khemi provides strategic, commercial advice to her clients on how to best protect, exploit and enforce their intellectual property rights.

In particular, Khemi focusses on brand, design and copyright matters. She is part of the UK IP team's award-winning practice, which has won MIP's UK Designs Firm of the Year for an unprecedented five years in a row.

Khemi works on a wide range of matters for brands and designs clients including global portfolio management and enforcement, project management, strategic advice, trademark clearance, and high court litigation.

Nevertheless, Khemi understands that often multiple IP rights are at play when dealing with matters. Her broad experience helps her to provide comprehensive support to her clients.

Experience

  • Delivering the brand protection programme for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Khemi was seconded to the Organising Committee for the Games as the Brand Protection Manager. In her role, leading the brand protection team, she was responsible for developing the brand protection strategy, brand enforcement guidelines, delivering clean venues, delivering an authorisation process for advertising and trading during Games time under new legislation, and project managing and overseeing the brand enforcement programme at Games time.
  • Acting for an Italian fashion brand in its high court litigation case involving patent infringement, UK unregistered design right infringement and passing off. The case was the first in the UK to deliver a successful finding of post-sale confusion for passing off.
  • Advising a consumer goods client on the global enforcement of its patent and trademark portfolio against infringers and counterfeiters, and co-ordinating enforcement through a network of local attorneys.
  • Advising a luxury car manufacturer with the enforcement of its trademarks, designs and copyright against infringers.
  • Co-ordinating and enforcing a client's global trademark portfolio for its homeopathic brands.
  • Advising a design-led children's toy and furniture retailer on the launch of infringing products by a well-known supermarket.
  • Acting for a patent owner in litigation in both the High Court and Court of Appeal against an implementer of the technology.
