Micky Yang

Micky Yang is a corporate partner in our indirect real estate practice.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG Micky was an Of Counsel at Herbert Smith Freehills where she devoted over a decade focusing solely on providing corporate advice to clients in the real estate sector.

Micky has advised a diverse array of domestic and international clients in the real estate sector (including, amongst others, PE houses, asset managers, institutional investors and family offices) on the corporate aspects of inward and outward property investments and disposals in the real estate sector and has a wealth of experience in advising on complex investment and development joint ventures.

Her practice effectively brings together the firm's corporate and real estate expertise (with the input other relevant specialists) to provide a joined-up and coordinated service to our clients.

Micky has a deep understanding of the sector and combines strong corporate technical expertise with a commercial outlook and a user friendly, "can do" and hands on approach.

Experience

  • Advised L&G Affordable Homes in a 50:50 joint venture with housing association Metropolitan Thames Valley Homes (via its shared ownership brand, So Resi) targeting the delivery in London and the South East, over the next seven years, of 2,500 homes of which approximately 2,000 will be shared ownership with the remainder allocated for affordable rent, with the first homes built in 2025.
  • Advised L&G Modular Homes in a 50:50 joint venture with Vivid Homes with the aim to deliver a programme of over 300 modular homes a year  
  • Advised L&G Investment Management on a mandate from ReAssure Limited for the disposal of the corporate structure holding Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Northampton
  • Advised TfL in respect of its minority stake in a joint venture with a national developer Ballymore to redevelop a shopping centre in Greater London
  • Advised abrdn, as general partner of the limited partnership holding the Castlepoint Shopping Park (Bournemouth), on the disposal of limited partnership interests to two of the existing limited partners
  • *Advised a US headquartered investor/developer, in its joint venture with a UK developer/asset manager specialising in the PBSA sector for the creation of a PBSA portfolio, including in connection with the DFA and the acquisition of the first five seed plots.
  • *Advised London developer in the disposal of its landmark mixed use scheme Marble Arch Place to a Korean investor
  • *Advised a large Asian investor on its JV with a European hotel operator and the acquisition of a portfolio of hotels across nine European jurisdictions
  • *Represented a well-known US private equity firm on a number of acquisitions of logistics assets in the UK amounting in aggregate over £1.5 billion as well as on the disposal of various office buildings in London
  • *Acted for a leading Asian logistics investor and manager on the 3-phase forward purchase of an industrial park in Northampton developed by Panattoni
  • *Advised an Australian government superannuation fund on the creation of a joint venture with a Japanese bank in respect of its investment in a portfolio of 18 office properties in Slough
  • *Advised on the corporate aspects of a 4-way joint venture to acquire and develop 22 Bishopsgate (known as TwentyTwo), the second tallest skyscraper in London, acting for one of the members of the consortium, a South East Asian private equity firm
  • *Acted for a UK real estate investment manager on the c. £1 billion disposal of substantially all the assets held by its funds I and II through the sale of various corporate vehicles holding a varied mix of real estate assets (including hotels, offices, commercial and joint venture interests)
