Mike Trainer

Mike Trainer is Joint Head of Logistics and has more than 20 years' experience as a real estate development and investment lawyer. He specialises in acting for property companies, developers, investors and corporate occupiers on major real estate developments with particular expertise in the logistics and office markets whilst also leading on retail and energy related developments.

Mike helps clients to manage risk in relation to strategic developments and investment projects, and uses the law to find solutions and resolve issues on projects. In doing so, he seeks to help clients work with their partners (whether tenants, investors, funders or contractors) to find mutually beneficial commercial solutions.

Clients

Mike acts for many of the UK's leading real estate developers working in the logistics sector (e.g. IM Properties; Prologis). In addition, he acts for a range of property companies, developers, investors and corporates including Helical, The Hut Group, Jaguar Land Rover, Wittington Investments and Peel Group.

Experience

  • Securing forward funding for IM Properties in relation to a new 3m sq ft global parts logistics centre for Jaguar Land Rover at Mercia Park in North West Leicestershire. The transaction represents Europe's largest ever single occupier build-to-suit transaction with the new parts logistics centre servicing 80 countries for JLR;
  • Advised global real estate firm Osborne+Co on the development of a new 500,000 sq. ft. office campus for Santander UK at Milton Keynes. At the time in August 2020, the £150 million construction contract let was the largest value building contract let in the UK since the COVID-19 outbreak;
  • Acting for Jaguar Land Rover on the sale and pre-let back of a new 1,100,000 sq ft facility adjacent to their existing strategic manufacturing facility in Solihull.
