Rebecca Johnston

Rebecca Johnston is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group of Gowling WLG's Ottawa office.

Rebecca works on complex intellectual property litigation, including proceedings brought under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. Her background in biochemistry, Masters in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, and experience working in biotechnology, including with clinical trials, allow her to provide her clients with practical advice that is rooted in a strong understanding of the science.

Rebecca’s litigation practice also includes claims under the Trademarks Act, the Copyright Act, and claims for damages. Additionally, Rebecca advises clients on a variety of matters including patent listing, the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board (PMPRB), copyright licensing and enforcement, and contractual disputes. She has appeared before the Federal Court, Ontario Superior Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Ontario Court of Appeal.

As an active member of her community, Rebecca has volunteered with Pro Bono Ontario and also volunteers with a local minor hockey league.
