Shawn Duguay

Shawn Duguay is a partner in the Family Law Group of Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practice focuses exclusively on family law.

Shawn helps clients navigate the complex personal and financial issues inherent in family law matters. His practice encompasses all aspects of family law, including:  

• Drafting and negotiating marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, and separation agreements;
• Advising clients with respect to child and spousal support issues;
• Resolving complex financial issues around the division of property;
• Addressing the valuation and income determination issues that impact business owners during a separation;
• Navigating high-conflict parenting disputes around decision-making and parenting time; and,
• Representing clients in a range of alternative dispute resolution processes, including family law mediations and arbitrations.

Shawn knows that every family’s situation is unique and so are the solutions to family law problems. His approach is practical, strategic and results-oriented.

Where a negotiated resolution is not possible, Shawn also has significant courtroom experience, having argued cases at all levels of court in Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Shawn also provides guidance to businesses where their interests intersect with family law issues.
