Bio
Vashini Jaunky is a bilingual summer law student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office.
Vashini completed her second year in the Programme de droit canadien (JD/LLL) at the University of Ottawa. Throughout her studies, Vashini worked as a legal intern at the Equality Law Clinic. She was a teaching assistant in the Introduction à la résolution des différends (dispute resolution) course and is currently a teaching assistant in the Compétences et habilités juridiques (Legal Foundations) course. During her first year of law school, Vashini had the opportunity to participate in a moot competition, where she was ranked top oralist. She was involved in various projects related to negligence, ethics in negotiation, environmental law and defamation (comparative law) as a research assistant.
Vashini’s strong dedication to promoting gender equality and safeguarding human rights led her to collaborate with the Canadian Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges. She had the invaluable experience of working closely with the National Advisory Group under the supervision of Madam Justice Renee Pomerance.
Born and raised in Mauritius, Vashini moved to Canada to pursue her studies in French Literature. Prior to entering law school, Vashini completed her undergraduate degree in Lettres françaises at the University of Ottawa.
Vashini is fluent in both French and English. In her spare time, she finds it rewarding to help children with neurodevelopmental disorders tackle their math, French and science homework.
Vashini will focus her summer term in the firm’s Advocacy Department.
