Gowling WLG secures six shortlistings in The Legal 500 UK 2020 Awards
International law firm Gowling WLG has secured six shortlistings in The Legal 500 UK 2020 Awards.
The firm's Projects, Energy and Natural Resources team have been shortlisted in three categories including Firm of the Year, Firm of the Year (outside London), with Partner Gus Wood nominated for Individual of the Year (outside London).
The firm's Human Resources teams, including Pensions, Employment and Health and Safety, are also shortlisted in two categories including Firm of the Year (outside London), with Head of Pensions Partner Glyn Ryland nominated as Individual of the Year (outside London).
Principal Associate Richard Thurling, who joined the firm's Real Estate team in July, was also recognised with a shortlisting in the Real Estate Individual (outside London) category.
This latest success for the firm comes on the back of a stellar performance by all teams in the recent The Legal 500 UK and Chambers and Partners legal directory rankings, added to further accolades from a host of other industry bodies.
The Projects & Infrastructure and Energy & Natural Resources teams were named as one of only eight firms nationally to be ranked in all five of The Legal 500 UK 'Projects, Energy and Natural Resources' categories, with Gowling WLG named 'Standalone' Tier 1 for Energy, and Project Finance and PFI. The team also moved up the rankings to feature amongst the leading firms in London and the West Midlands for work in Water, Emerging Markets and Mining and Minerals. In November, the firm's Energy team was also recognised for its standout Energy & Renewables practice in the latest The Times Best Law Firms 2020 results, with the firm's Equity Capital Markets lawyers securing further success in the latest Who's Who Legal: Mining, as the Mining team also maintained their leading position atop the FTSE AIM 100 rankings.
The Real estate team also secured five Tier 1 Legal 500 rankings across London and the West Midlands, with a market-leading 11 lawyers named 'Leading Individuals'. Further team secured further success in 2019 having been named among the finalists for Property Law Firm of the Year at the West Midlands Property Awards as well as a shortlisting for Real Estate Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards.
The firm's Pensions, Employment and Health and Safety teams also secured market-leading The Legal 500 UK Tier 1 rankings across the board, including an impressive nine 'Leading Individuals' named, three of which feature in the legal directory's prestigious Hall of Fame. Partner Glyn Ryland's individual shortlisting success comes following earlier recognition by 'Best Lawyers' in the 11th Edition of the international peer review publication, showcasing the leading legal talent in the UK for their expertise, ethics and professionalism of the highest calibre
The Legal 500 UK 2020 Awards is compiled through extensive research by the directory, which conducted over 70,000 interviews with legal professionals in the UK to determine the leading firms across a number of business sectors. Unique in the legal industry, the awards recognise each element of the profession equally, representing the very best law firms, chambers, barristers, in-house lawyers, business leaders and general counsel operating within the UK market.
Results will be announced on The Legal 500 UK website in early December, with an awards evening planned on the 27th February 2020 in central London.
