Nicolas Cayouette is a partner in Gowling WLG's Montréal office and has been a member of the Litigation & Dispute Group since 2007. His practice focuses on P3 projects, infrastructure and construction, as well as litigation and environmental matters.
Nicolas holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. Nicolas has unique experience in complex and technical disputes and projects, namely in the areas of engineering and construction and requiring the intervention of experts acting in various fields. Most notably, he has experience advising companies on various subjects regarding the development and design of mechanical and structural components, specifically in the areas of wind energy, construction and aeronautics.
He has also participated in various major construction projects over the last few years most of which were over $1 billion both for public bodies and private corporations. In the framework of the diverse matters and projects he acts in, Nicolas liaises with engineers, experts and lawyers to ensure that all technical aspects are accurately and adequately presented in the prepared and submitted materials.
When Nicolas has participated in diverse legal matters, both on the advocacy and solicitor’s side, he has always brought forward aspects or arguments that would otherwise be omitted by the participating engineers to ensure better comprehension by the interveners. Nicolas has worked within multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, consulting engineering firms, accountants, as well as professors from some of the most prestigious universities.
Nicolas Cayouette's experience is unique, and for this reason, he is a major asset in any matter involving engineering, development or design-related issues.
Nicolas is recognized in his field, including recent rankings in the Chambers Canada 2023 and 2024 (Projects: PPP & Infrastructure) as well as Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory "Lawyer to Watch" in 2019.
