Jonathan Lam is a partner in the advocacy department of Gowling WLG's Vancouver office and a member of the firm's Employment, Labour and Equalities Group. Prior to joining the Vancouver office, Jonathan practiced in Gowling WLG's Calgary office.
Jonathan has achieved successful results before trial and appellate courts in Alberta and British Columbia and has experience resolving disputes through all forms of negotiations and alternate dispute resolution processes.
In his employment law practice, Jonathan acts for employers and advises management on all aspects of employment law, including defending wrongful dismissal and human rights claims, advising on terminations, restructuring, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, workplace policies, work place investigations, as well as non-competition and non-solicitation restrictive covenants. Jonathan also advises employers of unionized workplaces with respect to labour relations matters and grievances.
Jonathan also practices administrative law and regularly appears before various regulatory bodies and tribunals, including regulatory Colleges under the Health Professions Act, and has extensive experience representing regulated health professionals governed under the Health Professions Act in College proceedings.
In the 2023 edition of Best Lawyers in CanadaTM, Jonathan was selected for inclusion under the category "Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch," a recognition given to those "extraordinary lawyers who have been in private practice for less than 10 years, as voted by their peers."
Jonathan completed his law degree at the University of British Columbia, where he was the recipient of various scholarships for his academic excellence and community involvement.
He was a summer and articling student with Gowling WLG before joining the firm as an associate in 2015.
