Natalia Thawe is an associate lawyer and registered patent agent in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, working in the Intellectual Property (IP) Group. She practises primarily in the area of patent litigation and patent prosecution, and also has experience in industrial design and trademark litigation matters. She has technical experience in the areas of biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, molecular biology, molecular genetics and chemistry.
Natalia has worked with a variety of clients on IP matters, including patent infringement actions, patent impeachment actions and proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. Her litigation and enforcement experience spans industries – including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and computer software. She has appeared before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal.
Natalia earned her JD program from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to law school, she worked as a clinical research coordinator in the gastroenterology department at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
Natalia holds a master of science in molecular genetics from the University of Toronto, with a focus on virology and molecular biology. During her undergraduate studies, Natalia specialized in biochemistry.
Natalia has previously volunteered and worked at the Office of Technology Transfer and Industrial Liaison at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her work focused on, among other things, drafting clinical study agreements and institutional policies and guidelines related to clinical studies and commercialization of IP.
