Birmingham City Council sells land to University of Birmingham for major life sciences campus

01 March 2017

In March 2017, a Real Estate team led by partner Nisha Jassal and including Robert Caddick, Lee McBride and Gemma Whittaker, advised Birmingham City Council on its sale of Battery Park in Selly Oak to the University of Birmingham.

The University intends to develop the land into a life sciences campus, while Sainsbury's and Land Securities will develop the remainder of the site into a retail park.

The University's site will house world class research facilities, as well as focusing on attracting investors and organisations into relocating to the site.

The sale by Birmingham City Council to the University is part of the Council's plan to spur on the regeneration of Birmingham to help the city progress and develop. The transformation of Battery Park into a specialist life sciences centre will be an exciting turning point for the city.
