Jayde Wood
Jayde Wood is an intellectual property lawyer, patent agent, and trademark agent based in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office. Her practice focuses on the strategic creation, development, and commercialization of IP assets. Jayde has law degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
Jayde assists clients with technology commercial transactions, where she negotiates and drafts information technology contract, licensing, co-development research, and services agreements. She also handles IP due diligence in commercial transactions and advises on IP policies/procedures for both private and public entities.
Jayde is experienced in obtaining patent and design protection. Her patent prosecution practice focusses on the life sciences and food processing sectors, as prior to being a lawyer, she conducted research on antimicrobial resistance, phylogenetic grouping, and DNA fingerprinting of food-borne microorganisms. Jayde leverages her science background to help local and multinational clients with patent matters.
Jayde's trademark and branding practice includes all aspects of the trademark life cycle, from providing guidance on the creation of a distinctive brand to conducting screening/clearance assessments, from trademark prosecution to enforcement, and from maintenance to commercial exploitation. Jayde has assisted clients with optimizing their brand protection strategy, including handling Madrid Protocol applications/registrations, obtaining registered trademark protection for non-traditional marks (such as product design, packaging, and moving image), and deploying other types of non-trademark protection.
