Shelagh Carnegie

Shelagh Carnegie is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and leader of the firm's Canadian Trademarks Group. She is also a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group.

Shelagh's intellectual property practice focuses on all levels of trademark prosecution, including clearing, obtaining and protecting trademark rights. Her expertise includes the strategic management and enforcement of national and international portfolios; intellectual property enforcement, including oppositions, cancellations, trademark and copyright disputes; negotiating and drafting coexistence and settlement agreements; negotiating and drafting license and consent agreements; and advertising and marketing law. Shelagh acts as counsel to a wide range of Canadian and international IP rights holders.

Shelagh also practises entertainment law, which includes negotiating and drafting commercial agreements related to the acquisition and exploitation of content and talent.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements and contributions to the firm's success, Shelagh was included on Lexpert magazine's list of Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 for 2013.

Shelagh is the chair of the Brands & Marketing Team of MARQUES - the Association of European Trade Mark Owners. Her work on the firm's Starbucks client team was recognized through the Starbucks International Excellence in Diversity Award.
